Yesterday I got a taste of Franciacorta, the place to be come October 2011 at the European wine bloggers conference. Some weeks ago I bought a sparkling wine, a still white and a red wine, yesterday I opened the white one. The sparkling one will be opened on midsummer’s eve – next Friday. As always we wanted some food to compliment the wine and stared to look – we found an Italian dish called Vitello Tonnato (veal with tuna). I thought the combination of fish, light meat, lemon and capers would play nicely with the wine; a 2006 Bellavista Curtefranca. The wine is made of Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc.
The scent is a bit peculiar and difficult to interpret, its a tad sharp, it’s fresh and holds som acids. There are also some fruits: ripe pear and yellow apple, a little citrus and limestone and sophisticated hints of oak.
The taste is fresh, almost a bit sharp with a lots of acid and mineral tones. It got apple flavours – that goes towards apple juice and calavdos, but not all the way, yellow autumn apples that has that fatty or waxy feel mixed with some notes of lemon, bread, minerals and subtle oak. It’s elegant, sweet, a little sharp and has nice acids. A both interesting and good wine that went well with the food.
